Imagine

I was listening to Joan Baez earlier today. It's been quite awhile, and I was again being moved by her astonishing voice and her style. As I listened I realized that I couldn't understand her completely due to my quirky hearing. As I accepted that it became perfect. I realized that the words weren't really that important. I knew she was telling me a story and that it was an old story. No matter how beautifully told, it was a story from the past.

It occurred to me that there might be a convergence of all the old stories. What if there is a moment in time - whether it's a second or a year or a century - What if there's a moment where all of the old stories converge? All of these stories, whether written or spoken or beautifully sung, bring us to where we are right now. What if these stories give us who we are, where we are, what we are but they don't give us the future? What if the future is up to us? What if it is up to us to take on being responsible for what we are creating?

This could occur as a very scary idea but I can't see any future in taking it in that direction. I would rather take it toward creating the world as we would have it be. For me that is in the direction of bringing forth a world at peace - a world where love is first and foremost for one and all.

I turned Joan back on. The she was just beginning was John Lennon's "Imagine." I'm not a believer in coincidence - certainly not in situations like this. What a powerful take on leaving the old stories behind - "Imagine there is no heaven ..." and bringing forth a whole new world - "Imagine all the people / Living life in peace ... I hope someday you'll join us / And the world will live as one". This occurs for me as a new story - creating a future from this moment forward.

Love, Woodson
